Profile
Hossein Askari received his B.S. in Civil Engineering, attended the Sloan School of Management and received his Ph.D. in International Economics and Finance, all at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was an instructor at MIT, Assistant Professor at Tufts University, and Associate Professor and Professor at the University of Texas at Austin. He served for two and a half years on the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund representing Saudi Arabia and was Special Advisor to the Minister of Finance of Saudi Arabia, after which he came to the School of Business at the George Washington University in 1982, where he is now the Iran Professor of International Business and Professor of International Affairs. He was the Director of an international team of energy experts that designed a long-term energy plan for Saudi Arabia in the mid-1980s. During 1990-1991 he was asked by the governments of Iran and Saudi Arabia to act as an intermediary to restore bi-lateral diplomatic relations that had been ruptured in 1987; during 1991-1992 he was asked by the Government of Kuwait to intermediate to improve bi-lateral relations with Iran. He has written extensively on Islamic economics and finance, the economies of the Middle East, international trade and finance, and on agricultural economics. In the past, he has consulted with the U.S. General Accounting Office, the United Nations, the World Bank, IFC, OPIC, the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, the Ministry of Finance of Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, Bechtel, ARCO, SUNOCO, First National Bank of Chicago, National Commercial Bank, Eastman Chemicals and other companies and organizations.

Her experience includes serving as Senior Investment Advisor and Regional Legal Advisor to the U.S. Agency for International Development. She has also working as a Corporate Associate for a private law firm. Her work at USAID focuses on credit enhancements to private sector financial institutions and investors and advising USAID on their foreign assistance programs. Professor Doswell received her J.D. from Georgetown University and holds a B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.

Professor Scheherazade Rehman was invited to be the 2006 Douglas Y.Thomas Visiting Economist Series Speaker at Bradley University and Caterpillar Inc. The Visiting Economist Series has featured seminars by distinguished economists including Milton Friedman, Robert Barro, Deidre McCloskey, James Buchanan, Douglas North.
Title of the speech: "Oil and Arms: A Disastrous Environment for Economic Growth in the Middle East."
Prior to teaching at GW, Dr. Rehman was a Foreign Exchange and Money Market Trader in Bahrain (Middle East). She is also a Senior Partner at the International Consultants Group which specializes in Middle East financial sector development and investment management. She has worked with many international and U.S. government and private agencies, such as, The World Bank, Central Banks and Finance Ministers of Turkey, Nigeria, Mongolia, Hungary, Poland, Russia, and China, GAZPROM, Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), U.S. Agency of International Development (USAID), U.S. Foreign Service Institute, U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), The Corporate Response Group, Inc., AT&T, Financial Advisor to the Board of Directors of Thomas David McCloud (U.K.), etc.
In 1997, she received the Senior Research Fulbright Award from the U.S. Dept of State Fulbright Commission to conduct a comprehensive research study on South & East Asian Regional Economic and Financial Development, with a case study on Pakistan. In 2003, she received the GW School of Business Undergraduate Teaching Award, In 2002, she received the GW MBA Association Faculty of the Year Award. In 2001, she received the GW School of Business Graduate Teaching Award in International Business and the GW MBA Association Faculty of the Year Award. In 1998, she received the GW University Bender Teaching Award, and the First Annual Outstanding GW University Women of the Year Award.

Professor Ulrich has extensive experience in cross-border transactions concentrating in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity investments and business reorganizations, representing U.S. and European clients ranging from large public companies to private companies in a wide range of industries.

Professor Ulrich, a German citizen, holds law degrees from both the George Washington University and the University of Freiburg, Germany and also studied at the University of Poitiers, France.
